V. John Bull

Washington Irving (1783–1859
An old song, made by an aged old pate,
Of an old worshipful gentleman who had a great estate,
That kept a brave old house at a bountiful rate,
And an old porter to relieve the poor at his gate.
With an old study fill’d full of learned old books,
With an old reverend chaplain, you might know him by his looks,
With an old buttery hatch worn quite off the hooks,
And an old kitchen that maintained half-a-dozen old cooks.
Like an old courtier, etc.”
—OLD SONG
Yhe arthor states in this essay that he does not like this poem. By stating that the nicknames used in the poem were unneccesary and were not called for as well. His thesis statement stated all his dislikes and likes he would be talking as well. "Thus they have taken a singular delight in exhibiting their most private foibles in a laughable point of view; and have been so successful in their delineations, that there is scarcely a being in actual existence more absolutely present to the public mind than that eccentric personage, John Bull."
I did not really know whwere the conclusion was going with this author. But his writing style was a critic so to speak about this poem.

third essay

IV. Consolation for the Old Bachelor

Francis Hopkinson (1737–179

This arthors approach on yhis essay was more of a sad/sorrow story. About a man who negelected his feelings in the earlier stages of his life. Now inaddition to that now his life as an older gentleman is very sad and filled with sorrow. His thesis statement was very good he explained all the points about is essay in his thesis statement."MR. AITKEN: Your Old Bachelor having pathetically represented the miseries of his solitary situation, severely reproaching himself for having neglected to marry in his younger days, I would fain alleviate his distress, by showing that it is possible he might have been as unhappy—even in the honorable state of matrimony." in conclusion his life was filled with sorrow and despare.

second essay

II. The Whistle

Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790
The arthor's approach is a settle but unhappy one. He felt that he should not have received a letter from his friend on a certain day because he did not respond to his previous one. I addition to that he states that he likes what his friend is talking about and telling him, he enjoys his letters. The thesis statement was very well thought out and very well written."Mr. B. has kindly sent me word that he sets out to-morrow to see you, instead of spending this Wednesday evening, as I have done its namesakes, in your delightful company, I sit down to spend it in thinking of you, in writing to you, and in reading over and over again your letters" B.FRANKLYN
His technique was very good and thought out and in his conclusion he stated how in the end he really apprieciated his friend and how much his friends letters meant to him.

first essay

. The Ephemera: An Emblem of Human Life

Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790)

The author was stating is views on human life and basically stating different views on life. The writers approch was more of a calm and vivid description about life. He did not only talk about his life but other peoples life as well. The artors thesis statement was very good it gave yoy a very broad description of his essay."I turned my head from them to an old gray-headed one, who was single on another leaf, and talking to himself. Being amused with his soliloquy, I put it down in writing, in hopes it will likewise amuse her to whom I am so much indebted for the most pleasing of all amusements, her delicious company and heavenly harmony".B.FRANKLYN
I think the introduction was very good, he stated what he wanted to talk about and expressed that as well.In his conclusion he stated he had spent is whole life trying to reach his goal of, his pursuit in life.

Obama

I felt real good yesterday hearing Obama speech. this is the first time since MLK that we have had a strong black figure move a crowd like Obama did last night. I feel that this is only the beginning and he will do great things for this nations and for us as a people as well. After hearing him speak made me believe that now i really can do anything. People told us as kids that when we got older we could do anything we wanted but now its a reality, President Obama made it a reality. So, now all we can do is move forward because this we are now history we are the first generation to see a BLACK President.
